Let’s Try This Again

Yesterday I decided to start blogging again. It was something I did years ago but life got in the way and well, I stopped. I had never thought of myself as someone who blogged about epic issues. I had mostly wrote about my time in film school and any new tech that I had gotten. Obviously I didn’t feel what I wrote was relevant either because I didn’t bother to archive anything. But something came across me and yesterday morning I felt I wanted to start blogging again. So began the search for a blogging platform.

What did I learn during my search? There is room for more platforms or at least for present platforms to have more options. I didn’t feel there was a service that made the process easy for a beginner or someone who’s feeling things out to get started and maybe later work up to a higher tier. The most aesthetic platform for me was Squarespace. But it seems as if they are now catering to established bloggers, vloggers, podcasters whose works are bringing in some income so to invest back into the platform with a high monthly cost or at a better deal annually. Of course you can think of paying up front as an investment but I think the latter may not be the first thought most people have. I can be wrong. Then there’s Weebly and Wix, which aren’t too far off from Squarespace but they are also not too tablet friendly either. I don’t think you can edit at all with Wix. This is important because I’d like to try and publish my post earlier in the day and taking a laptop to my day job isn’t really an option. So my iPad Pro 9.0 would be what I’ll use. Tumblr, well it’s more of a microblogging service and honestly I hate that top bar that has it’s name, search bar, “open in app”, and that annoying “get Tumblr” box floating at the bottom. Maybe there’s a way to change these things but it’s not obvious to me. I will like to note I do have a Tumblr account but I use it just for photos and it’s not bad for that. I did consider an old staple, Wordpress. But I found that as great of a service it is, it can add up over time and for myself I’d rather put that money toward a service like Squarespace to invest more time in writing rather than in management.  So what did I choose?

I chose Blogger. Why? Well my choice obviously seems as if it’s leaning toward Squarespace but at the moment I don’t want to invest in it. With that in mind I needed something temporary that I had more control over. Being that Blogger is Google whatever media I’ll use (mostly photos) will go on to my google account. So if I leave I still have everything saved and I always normally write my blog post in a document app before posting so having that will not be a concern either. There you have it, I’m back to blogging. Check out my url, yeah it’s very telling (hahahahaha).

I’ll have to get things going and try and get a schedule. Also I want to use this platform for getting back to writing stories, starting with short stories and working my way up to something more elaborate. But if I hope for anything I hope that what I write is helpful at times but also interesting and relatable.

  2. Good on you, and I wish you luck in this endeavor. I've tried my hand at blogging a few times, and after a few excited months, it just fell by the wayside. Perhaps I should pick up the electronic pen again, so to speak, and give it another shot as well.
