It’s You Who Motivate Me
Yes I’m blogging today but I’ll admit a daily blog may not be something I can handle right now. So don’t get too excited 😉. It’s not because I don’t want to write one but because of my schedule. I have a day job. Yes I work a regular unexciting day job. Well, it can be at times when I’m learning something new but admittedly it’s...a day job, especially for someone who considers themselves a creative. Which leads into what this blog is about today.
I’ve noticed that there are a lot of articles or blog posts trying to convince ‘older’ people that they shouldn’t give up and that they can live their dream if they haven’t accomplished it yet. Don’t get me wrong I do know that motivational books and speakers are all the rage for each generation, I wish I had the motivation to write one myself. Maybe an ebook showing how I continue to motivate myself and at the same time why I’m where I am now and not where I’d like to be. I think that may be a novel AND it’s not as simple as I’ve just stated it. That’s another story. But first things first, the motivational source that’s out there. I think it’s great that you can find these things and that someone who doesn’t know you is trying hard to boost you up. Such a noble gesture. But I wonder if maybe some of the motivation is assuming too much and is passing over the unknown, what someone may have already unintentionally accomplished. It’s something that’s mentioned in a quick passing phrase or sentence. Something like ‘You’ve accomplished a lot, you should be proud’, ‘You’ve got experience and it’ll go a long way’, ‘That time was not wasted...’, I think you get the point. All this is fine and good, I’m not saying that it isn’t. By the way these are not direct quotes, just the essence of how my memory remembers it after reading so many. But I think sometimes that feel good ‘You can do it’ may need to take a different approach after a certain age. I know you may have noticed that I put quotes around ‘older’. Well it was for a reason. I use to think older fell in the age group of 50 and older but not so much. It seems often theses days to fall more along the lines of 35 and older. When did 35 become associated with...old? Yes you’re older but you’re not old. Hell you’re not old at 50, seasoned but not old. You may feel like you are, but you’re not old. You may be tired of the daily BS but you’re not...old. Ok where am I going with this. Basically, I’m trying to say, don’t let anyone put you in a category and also, stop looking for words, phrases, speeches, books, to tell you what you already know. It wasn’t that you didn’t work that job because you didn’t understand your potential, you worked that job because there was something you wanted, peace of mind. You wanted your rent/mortgage paid, you wanted to be able to pay that cellphone bill, you wanted to buy things (even if you never ever used them) that seemed like a great idea at the time, you wanted to live a comfortable life and taking the chance to become that great writer wasn’t going to cut it at the time, the reassurance wasn’t there. If you wanted to be a great filmmaker but you weren’t comfortable with the support system you had and to get up and move away where it was a possible didn’t feel right. Being that great photographer was a great idea and it still is but when life taps you on the shoulder and says they’re coming (in that Poltegeist “their heeeere” voice), bill collectors, babies need diapers and/or your loved one is tired and wish things could just be like everyone else, having that peace of mind, that security. And you? You heed the call. AND THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. You are the ones keeping the world going.
So your time may be now or it may be a little later, but don’t beat yourself up because you didn’t grab it like so many others you may know. The grass is always greener on the other side and there are many wishing they had that security you have. And to them I say, don’t beat yourself up either, start getting it now, you where the chance takers and I admire you. You let me know that you were able to do it then and now I know I can do it now or later. You see how that worked out. We all motivate each other just by being who we are.
Hopefully this post was coherent and harmonious in what it’s trying to say. All this is based on my opinion and I appreciate you wanting to know what it was.
Have an awesome day

Hi Tiff,
ReplyDeleteFound you through a re-tweet of a re-tweet something something hak5 (it was your coffee mug). You said IRC is still a place to be, #hak5 ftw.
So! I followed you here, and I'm excited you have a blog. I'm at work right now (small break atm), but I'm happy to find someone who seems to be where I'm at in terms of writing (fiction) and blogging (getting back to it myself) and tech (work as helpdesk, hoping to code more) and just stuff. It's good to have friends along the way. So it's me waving hi and hoping to keep following you (I do on twitter as seems you have many followers).
Myself, I'm on wordpress.org and I paid for a domain and service, because I just want to mess with things. Blogger, at the time, was connected to a Google account and I rather use that less and less, and I want to use things wordpress let me use, and I want to have my own domain, don't mind the 60 or so a year you know.
I also write in a wiki for tech related stuff, if this is any of interest to you as a platform (warning: I'll talk your head off...). I hope yo keep seeing you update this place, and hey if you need some motivation let me know, I'll bring the whip out ;)
happy holidays and happy new year!
Hi Josh. I really do appreciate that you’d stopped by and left a comment. It seems as if you’re another one with a lot of passions and hoping to finally settle in at a place doing a little something in life with what you love. Yeah I chose Blogger for now and most likely I’ll give in and go back to Squarespace if I decide to go head on with my creative endeavor. Well as you can see I love tech as well so my goal is to mix the two. So having someone motivating me could come in handy hahahaha. I’m going to try and keep posting something on this blog and build it up to something consistent. It’s great to have you and I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for your tweets 🤓
